Demonetization measures akin to white money movement: Venkaiah

New Delhi, Nov 10 (IANS) Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday described the latest moves by the government on black money and the ban on high-denomination currency notes as a "white money movement" and asserted that a "real war against corruption" has been launched.

Charging the Congress with speaking in "two voice", Naidu challenged it to extend support to the moves as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday night.

Noting that some political parties have criticised the government since Modi announced banning of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, he said that there is no substance in their criticism.

"They are raising these issues just for the sake of it. Entire country is happy, I have spoken to various leaders and some Chief Ministers. People are overwhelmingly happy about the steps. This is a real war against the corruption....that is the message that has gone down."

He, however, admitted that for the transitory period people would face problems.

"Let us all make the efforts a success," Naidu said and reminded the media of their role in national service.
