Chandigarh, Nov 9 (IANS) Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to demonetise currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations.
This is an audacious step taken by the Prime Minister in the interest of the country to hit hard at black money, he said in a statement.
He said the people might have to face difficulty for two to three days but it would prove beneficial in the long run.
The decision would hit hard those having black money and would also diminish the possibility of tax evasion, he added.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary D.S. Dhesi convened a meeting here and directed officials to ensure all necessary arrangements are in place for the convenience of the public, especially for purchase of petrol, diesel, milk, tickets of buses and seeds.
The Haryana Dairy Development Co-operative Federation Ltd, which sells Vita milk, was directed to accept existing currency notes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 denominations at all 399 outlets in the state.
Similarly, the purchase of diammonium phosphate and seeds by the farmers would also be allowed at authorised cooperative institutions by presenting the demonetised currency notes.
