Bangladesh’s July-October exports up

Dhaka, Nov 7 (IANS) Boosted by ready-made clothing sales, Bangladesh's total goods export income in the first four months of the current fiscal (July 2016-June 2017) grew about 7 percent year-on-year to nearly $11 billion, an official said on Monday.

The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) official told Xinhua news agency that the country fetched a total of $10,791.65 million from exports during July-October compared to $10,130.49 million in the same period a year ago.

Bangladesh shipped goods worth $2.71 billion in October, the 4th month of the current fiscal year 2016-17, which was about 14.39 percent higher than the same month a year ago, Xinhua news agency quoted the unnamed official as saying.

The export growth in the first four months of the fiscal year was attributed to demand for the country's ready-made garments in key global markets.

The export earnings, however, fell short of target of $11,584 million set for the period, said the official.
