Parrikar lying on OROP issue, says AAP

Panaji, Nov 6 (IANS) The AAP on Sunday accused Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar of lying on the OROP issue, saying he has committed numerous U-turns both as Goa Chief Minister and and now as Union minister.

"Now as Defence Minister, he shamelessly continues to lie on the OROP issue and is falsely claiming that the (Narendra) Modi government has already delivered its OROP promise. In the same breath, Parrikar says the Centre needs two months to solve the OROP difficulties, which only proves the BJP government is still lying," Aam Aadmi Party's national spokesperson Ashutosh said at a press conference here.

"If (ex) servicemen are happy with the government on the OROP issue, why are they agitating in Delhi? Why did Subhedar Grewal have to commit suicide?" he also said, adding that while the OROP issue has been dragging for long, the Central government had been "quick to claim credit for the bravery and achievements of the armed forces".

Ashutosh also said, that by issuing an order halving disability pension of ex-servicemen and bringing the comparative ranking of military officers vis a vis bureaucrats, soon after the surgical strikes, showed how the National Democratic Alliance government was mistreating the men in uniform.

Attacking Parrikar's stint in Goa, he said that Parrikar and his Bharatiya Janata Party have "only further contributed to making Goa a destination for gambling, sex and drugs" and "miserably failed to deliver on their promise of good governance and zero tolerance to corruption".
