Saad Hariri becomes Prime Minister of Lebanon again

Beirut, Nov 3 (IANS) Former Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri was on Thursday reappointed Prime Minister for a third time following a vote in parliament, an official said.

The news comes after two days of parliamentary consultations with newly elected President Michel Aoun, Efe news reported.

"Lebanon's President Michel Aoun has issued a decree on November 3, on appointing Saad Hariri for the post of the Prime Minister of the country," Sputnik news quoted a presidential administrative representative as saying.

Aoun, 83, a former army chief, was elected President on Monday in the Lebanese parliament, filling a vacancy almost two and a half years old.

Hariri, who heads al-Mustaqbal Movement, said he hopes a government of "national accord" would be formed soon, Xinhua news agency reported.

He is the son of Rafic Hariri, the former Lebanese Prime Minister who was assassinated in 2005 in Beirut.
