Mild 3.2 intensity tremor felt in Kutch region

Gandhinagar, Nov 3 (IANS) A mild tremor of 3.2 intensity on the Richter scale was felt in the Kutch district of Gujarat on Thursday.

According to the Gandhinagar-based Seismological Research Institute, the tremor was felt around 9.36 a.m. and its epicentre was some 20 km north-east of Dudhai town in Kutch.

Institute officials said Gujarat has experienced as many as 65 tremors so far this year and most of them were centred in Kutch and Saurashtra, seismologically one of the most sensitive areas in the country.

Official sources said no loss of life or property has been reported because of the jolts, which were mostly light to moderate in nature.

The strongest among them was of 4.7 intensity felt on July 17 and was centred 24 km north-west of Surat in south Gujarat. One person was injured when, out of panic, he jumped off the second floor of a building in Palitana city in Bhavnagar district.

Another tremor of 4.4 intensity was experienced in August with its epicentre in the Arabian Sea, 50 km south-west of Saurashtra's Mangrol town.

The intensity was reported to be less than 4.4 on the Richter scale during all other quakes in the State.
