New Delhi, Nov 2 (IANS) Delhi Police on Wednesday said no political leader was arrested but few of them were detained for affecting "orderliness" while attempting to meet the grieving family of the deceased ex-serviceman who committed suicide to demand implementation of the OROP scheme.
"During protest by political parties at Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital today (Wednesday), none has been arrested. Only few of the leaders were detained," Joint Commissioner of Police Dependra Pathak told IANS.
"When leaders along with the crowd started gathering at RML, it affected medical services. The orderliness in the hospital also deteriorated due to their presence," he said.
Pathak said that the politicians and their supporters were asked to vacate the place but they didn't move and refused to follow the instruction after which they were detained.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was detained after he came out of the RML hospital after meeting with the grieving family of the deceased soldier Ram Kishan Grewal, who consumed poison and killed himself on Tuesday evening.
Grewal was demanding the full implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme.
Later in the day, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal were also detained by police.
Gandhi was detained twice, first at Mandir Marg police station for over 70 minutes and secondly at Connaught Place police station from where he was shifted to Tilak Marg police station.
Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia was also detained with several party supporters.
Pathak appealed to people to help Delhi Police in maintaining peace and orderliness in the city.
