Interfaith leaders visit troops at Wagah border, offer prayers
Amritsar, Oct 29 (IANS) Religious leaders from different communities visited troopers at Wagah border on Saturday on the eve of Diwali to laud efforts of the security forces in protecting the nation from external threats. They also offered prayers for national integrity, unity, peace and harmony.

According to a statement issued by Parmarth Niketan, the leaders included Swami Chidanand Saraswati of Parmarth Niketan (Rishikesh), Lokesh Muni of Ahimsa Vishwa Bharti, Imam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi of All India Imam Organization and Sant Giani Gurbachan Singh from Akal Takht, Golden Temple.

The religious leaders urged the nation to boost the morale of the soldiers.

The leaders embarked on the visit to Wagah border in response to the campaign -- #Sandesh2Soldiers -- initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On Saturday morning, they attended a special prayer at Harminder Sahib Gurudwara, and, later visited the border, where they addressed the security personnel and thousands of visitors.

"Every human and all creatures value their life but as a soldier you put your own life on the line to protect your nation. For me you are not only soldiers but also saints, giving every part of your being for the welfare of all," said Swami Saraswati, according to the release.

Muni and Ilyasi said that the security forces were toiling and making all efforts to protect the nation.

"This is a moment when we can show them that we are with them by lighting a candle for our brave soldiers. We urge everyone to join this national movement," they said, according to the statement.
