FA says Southgate credible to coach England

London, Oct 27 (IANS) English Football Association chief executive Martin Glenn said Gareth Southgate, current interim coach of the Three Lions, is a credible candidate to assume the position full time.

Southgate, 46, was named interim coach last September, after the English Football Association, popularly known as FA, dismissed Sam Allardyce, reports Efe.

In principle, the FA named Southgate as coach for four games against Malta, Slovenia, Scotland and Spain, while carrying out the search for a new tenant.

However, according to Glenn, the English coach could finally be chosen even if he loses the next two games against Scotland on November 11 and Spain on November 15.

"Gareth is a really credible candidate. He knows the international setup, he's done great work with the Under-21s and he wants to translate that across to the senior team," Glenn said.

"Even if he doesn't have a great couple of games he would still be a candidate. You don't judge a good manager on the basis of one or two games," he added.
