Kolkata, Oct 26 (IANS) Ruia Group Chairman and Jessop owner Pawan Kumar Ruia on Wednesday did not appear before the West Bengal Police's CID officials for a probe into repeated fire incidents at the company's factory in suburban Dum Dum.
The Criminal Investigation Department had summoned Ruia to appear at its headquarters for the probe ordered by the state government after fire incidents at the Jessop factory earlier this month.
"He hasn't appeared today (Wednesday) at Bhabani Bhavan (CID HQs). We are sending him a notice. He will probably be summoned again on Friday," Deputy Inspector General (CID) Bharat Lal Meena told IANS.
The CID has already arrested 16 people on charge of trespassing the Jessop factory premises and stealing factory equipment since taking up the case almost two weeks ago.
On Tuesday, the CID summoned three senior company officials, including CEO Ashok Agarwal, for questioning with regard to the thefts.
Agarwal was arrested by the Dum Dum police on Tuesday on charge of unauthorised removal of employees provident fund.
"Agarwal has been handed over to Dum Dum police, as there were 24 warrants pending against him on various issues related to the provident fund," a CID official said on Tuesday.
