Fire at Don Bosco school in Kolkata


Kolkata, Oct 26 (IANS) A fire broke out at the Don Bosco School in South Kolkata on Wednesday afternoon, but there were no reports of any casualty or injury, officials said.

"A fire broke out in the terrace of the Don Bosco School near Park Circus in Kolkata at around 12.30 pm on Wednesday," an officer manning the Fire Brigade Control Room here said.

Four fire tenders were pressed into service and the fire was controlled within an hour, he added.

School authorities said the fire was first spotted in the heap of waste material kept on the roof.

"Some construction work is going on in the building. Maybe, the fire was caused by bidi buds of the construction workers," Fr. Bikash Mondal of Don Bosco school, said in a press release.

"The local police station and the fire brigade people were immediately informed. All the students and teaching staff are safe," he said.

"The fire was put out at around 1:30 pm. The situation is under control now," the Fire Department confirmed.
