JNU marches for missing student Najeeb Ahmed

New Delhi, Oct 25 (IANS) Expressing solidarity with the missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed, the university students took out a march from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar here.

About 1,000 students gathered at Mandi House on Monday and proceeded towards the Jantar Mantar at 4 p.m. raising slogans against the JNU administration and the police.

Police was present at Jantar Mantar to evade any untoward actions and the barricades were also put in place.

It has been ten days since a 27-year-old M.Sc. student, Najeeb Ahmed, has been missing from the university.

Ahmed was beaten up by a mob of students, reported to be from Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), on the night of October 14 after a student named Vikrant had gone to his room at Mahi-Mandavi hostel to campaign for the post of mess secretary.

JNU students have been demanding a speedy inquiry into the matter and an action against the students involved in the thrashing of Ahmed.

A memorandum was also submitted to Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung today by the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) in this regard.

"We are demanding a concrete action from the administration. So far, we have been kept completely in the dark about their actions and the police procedures," Mohit Pandey, JNUSU President told IANS.

"We have demanded the opening of a proper communication channel between them and the student community," he added.

"Tomorrow we will meet Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to raise the same issue," he said.
