Want to revive romantic genre in Bollywood: Sinha

Mumbai, Oct 21 (IANS) Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha, who made his directorial debut in 2001 with sleeper hit "Tum Bin", feels "purist romantic genre" is missing from Bollywood, and said that he wants to revive the genre.

Sinha points out that even superstar Shah Rukh Khan, fondly called the King of Romance, has not done any out-and-out romantic film.

"In the recent past where have you noticed the purist romantic genre coming in Bollywood? Even Shah Rukh hasn't done a romantic film for a while now. I want to revive this genre, the old school kind of romance that is very relatable. Sadly, today's generation needs a reminder of this era," Sinha, who has worked with SRK in "Ra.One", said in a statement.

Sinha is excited for the forthcoming film "Tum Bin 2". The second instalment of "Tum Bin" franchise is written and directed by Sinha and jointly produced by him and Bhushan Kumar of T-Series music label.

Sinha also shared that superstar Salman Khan had also called him personally to congratulate him on the success of the first film. The director says that Salman called him "stupid" for not casting a big name in the 2001 film.

"One fine day Salman called me... I had intentionally not roped in any big star for 'Tum Bin' because it was my directorial debut and I had not envisaged any profits. Back in the days when Salman casually inquired why I had not considered a known face, I clearly told him that no one would agree to act in 'Tum Bin', let alone him."

"To which Salman told me upfront, 'You are stupid'," he said.

Shot in Scotland, "Tum Bin 2" reunites Sinha with Kumar after a gap of 15 years. "Tum Bin 2", featuring Neha Sharma, Aditya Seal and Aashim Gulati, will hit the screens on November 18.
