Pakistan, India trade fire along LoC in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu, Oct 19 (IANS) The Pakistan Army on Wednesday resorted to heavy cross-border firing at Indian posts on the Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, defence sources said.

The sources said Indian positions were targeted in Tarkundi area on the LoC, the de facto border that divides Jammu and Kashmir between the two countries.

"The Pakistan Army used 82 mm mortar shells and small arms to target our positions. Our troops effectively retaliated the Pakistan shelling and firing using same calibre weapons," a defence spokesperson said.

The shelling from both sides was on till late in the evening. There were no reports of any loss of lives from either side.

It was the latest in a series of violations of the 2013 ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army alleged that Pakistan violated the bilateral truce in the same area of the LoC on Tuesday.
