Mehbooba visits J&K village destroyed in blaze

Jammu, Oct 19 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday visited 126 families of a village in the state that was almost destroyed in a blaze over the weekend.

According to an official statement, Mehbooba Mufti announced various relief measures for the rehabilitation and welfare of the victims of the fire in Sukhnai village in Warwan area of mountainous district of Kishtwar. The village is located nearly 100 km from here.

As many as 126 families have been affected due to the Saturday night blaze in which 80 residential houses and an equal number of cow sheds and other structures including shops, a school, a mosque and some government buildings were destroyed. Over 400 cattle and sheep also perished in the devastating blaze.

During her visit, the Chief Minister assured the affected villagers of all possible support from the government.

The Chief Minister announced various relief measures including free ration to every family for a period of six months, Rs.75,000 per family for reconstruction of individual houses and three months rental for accommodation during the winter months.

During the visit, the Chief Minister directed the district administration to provide smokeless stoves and solar powered lanterns to the affected families.
