Ex-servicemen to help Metro commuters

New Delhi, Oct 19 (IANS) Delhi Metro will deploy ex-servicemen at its Rajiv Chowk and New Delhi stations to help out in a variety of tasks including preventing possible suicides, it was announced on Wednesday.

The Metro will initially deploy 100 former Junior Commissioned Officers and ex-Non-Commissioned Officers during the one year experiment, which may be extended.

They will provide services at station platforms, automatic fare collection gates, station areas and other locations in and around the premises, the Delhi Metro Rail Corp said.

They will also help in crowd management, formation of queues, look out for suspicious activity, help prevent suicide attempts and clear unauthorized vehicles outside.

The Rajiv Chowk and New Delhi metro stations are among the busiest in the Delhi Metro network, which ferries up to 28 lakh passengers every day.
