Bengal CM’s MP nephew Abhishek Banerjee stable

Kolkata, Oct 19 (IANS) Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, who was seriously injured in a road accident, is now stable but not out of post-traumatic stress, doctors treating him said on Wednesday.

"Abhishek has taken liquid food since (Wednesday) morning and is responding to treatment. No major injuries were found in the MRI scan," the doctors said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek's car hit the crane of a van towing a snag-hit milk van on Monday at Ratanpur, about six km from Singur on the Durgapur Expressway in Hooghly district, police said.

He was rushed to a city nursing home where doctors said he had sustained an orbital injury in a facial bone below the eye.

The Chief Minister has ordered a Criminal Investigation Department probe into any foul play.

Meanwhile, forensic experts visited the accident spot on Wednesday and collected samples.

"We are trying to get into the cause of the accident and the car's speed by inspecting skid marks on the road... there is a case of negligence involved in the accident," a forensic expert said from the spot.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sujan Chakraborty and party MP Ritobrata Banerjee visited the nursing home on Wednesday morning to wish Abhishek a speedy recovery.
