Kolkata, Oct 17 (IANS) Dibyendu Adhikari will be the Trinamool Congress candidate for the November 19 by-poll to the Tamluk Lok Sabha constituency in East Midnapore district, West Bengal's ruling party announced on Monday.
"Our party supremo Mamata Banerjee has given her approval to Adhikari's name for the Tamluk Lok Sabha by-polls," said Trinamool secretary general Partha Chatterjee.
Adhikari, now the Trinamool legislator from Kanthi Dakshin assembly seat, is also the brother of state Transport Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
Suvendu Adhikari had won from Tamluk in the 2014 general elections, but vacated the seat after emerging victorious from Nandigram in the assembly polls earlier this year.
The Adhikari brothers' father Sisir Adhikari is the Lok Sabha member from Kanthi in East Midnapore district. He is also a former union minister.
Chatterjee also named Saikat Panja as the party nominee for the Monteswar assembly seat in Budwan district, where by-poll will be held on the same date.
The death of Saikat's father Sajal Panja necessitated the by-poll to Monteshwar constituency.
Chatterjee said the Trinamool would announce in the next couple of days its candidate for the Cooch Behar seat, which is going to the by-poll the same day. The Lok Sabha seat fell vacant due to the death of Trinamool MP Renuka Sinha.
