New Delhi, Oct 15 (IANS) Designer duo Hemant & Nandita on Saturday brought forward a collection inspired by the Victorian era as they created an essense of romance with their range on the 28th edition of Amazon India Fashion Week Spring-Summer (AIFW) 2017.
The collection titled Romance Reinvented, which was showcased at the NSIC Ground in Okhla here, was dominated by ruffles, stripes, flounce and flare on silhouettes including bandeaus, summer trench coats, dresses, and skirts, which ranged in beautiful hues of powder blue, whites, mustard, orange and black.
The highlight of the entire range, which consisted of over 15 ensembles, was the use of obi belts and broad belts.
About the collection, Nandita said: "The collection is very romantic. It has a very Victorian influence."
Their show was followed by designer Pallavi Mohan, who showcased her latest collection Sweet Nector from her popular label Not So Serious, which was launched in 2007.
The designer, who has worked with hugely successful global labels such as Roberto Cavalli, Jean Paul Gaultier and Juicy Couture, is inspired by honeybees and nature.
"The collection started with bees and then went on to bee hives and then flowers...We always use organza...We have used organza, mesh, printed organza, coiling for technique," Mohan said.
The collection saw lots of layered ensembles with 3D flowers and circular designs, which is developed from laser cut jacquards and hand smock squares, layered with gentle pleats. Another major element in this collection is the extensive use of quelling.
Mimicking the circular dance of the bee, it involves thinly printed slivers of fabric wrapped and coiled. Floral motifs created this way form the signature look for the collection.
Mohan used fabrics like silk, tencel and varieties of tulles. The entire collection saw a wide array of colours palette which spreads from lavender, baby blue to dusty and chalk white.
The curtains for the five-day gala, which commenced on Wednesday, will be brought down on Sunday with a finale by ace designer JJ Valaya.
