Kashmir unrest: Injured on Friday boy succumbs, toll reaches 91

Srinagar, Oct 8 (IANS) A 13-year old Srinagar boy who sustained injures in clashes with security forces, succumbed to injuries on Saturday, taking the death toll to 91 in last three months of unrest.

Junaid Ahmad Bhat a resident of Saidpora locality in Srinagar city was taken to to SKIMS (Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Soura on Friday after he sustained firearm injuries during clashes.

 

"The boy has passed away today morning", a police officer said.

With Bhat's death, 91 people have been killed in the ongoing cycle of violence that completed 91 days on Friday.

The unrest started on July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujhadeen commander Burhan Wani was killed in a gunfight with the security forces.

For the 13th consecutive Friday no congressional prayers were allowed inside the historic Jamia Masjid in old city's Nowhatta.

Authorities also foiled the separatist march to the uptown Sonawar area where the office of the United Nations Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) is located.

Clashes also erupted in south Kashmir's Pulwama, Shopian and north Kashmir's Bandipor a districts in addition to some parts of Srinagar city after Friday prayers.

All educational institutions, public transport and main markets have remained shut in the Valley.

Train services between the Valley and Bannihal town in the Jammu region have also remained suspended during this period.
