New Delhi, Oct 7 (IANS) A court on Friday awarded two-year jail term to a former Deputy Commissioner of Police for amassing assets worth over Rs 10 lakh which were disproportionate to his known sources of income.
CBI Special Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna also imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on Bhupinder Singh Bola, formerly of Delhi Police.
Bola moved a bail plea on the ground that he was to file an appeal in a higher court against his conviction, which the court allowed. He was directed to furnish a bail bond of Rs 50,000.
Bola was convicted on Thursday for criminal misconduct pertaining to possession of disproportionate assets.
The Central Bureau of Investigation said that during searches at Bola's Delhi residence on July 6, 2001, assets of over Rs 10 lakh were unearthed and Bola failed to explain the source of income for buying those assets.
The CBI charge-sheeted him on July 30, 2005.
