India must nail Pak lies on surgical strikes: Congress

New Delhi, Oct 3 (IANS) The Congress party on Monday demanded that the government effectively expose" Pakistan's denial about the surgical strikes carried out by the Indian Army.

"The government must effectively expose Pakistan's denial. It has at its disposal all information, tools and instrument to do so. The government also has the complete backing of the entire political leadership cutting across party lines," senior Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma said hile briefing the media.

"We believe that this decision was taken after assessment and appraisal, and therefore, Pakistan's denial notwithstanding, India's position has been clear, and it must always be exposed for its duplicity," he added.

Pakistan has been denying the Indian claim of the surgical strikes that is said to have destroyed seven terror launch pads located in Tatta Pani, Leepa Valley, Bhimber and Kael areas in Pakistani-Occupied Kashmir, terming it as a "hyped routine border clash".

Sharma also condemned Monday's ceasefire violations by saying: "Besides ceasefire violations, attacks on Army/BSF camp and two ongoing attacks deserve strongest condemnation."

"Instead of learning from the seriousness of the situation, the Pakistani establishment still has the audacity to provoke India," he added.

Two women and a man were injured in mortar and small-arms firing from across the de facto boundary with Pakistan on Monday, as border tension continued amid intermittent firings from across the border in Jammu & Kashmir, officials said.

Sharma also felt that Pakistan has been 'exposed' but not 'isolated', and it must be 'isolated globally'.

"Only success is that Pakistan has lost any standing in Saarc. With other countries, like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Nepal, too endorsing India's position, it has exposed Pakistan within Saarc. But, in order make it possible globally, the government must continue diplomatic offensive," Sharma observed.

"Pakistan has been exposed but not isolated. Within 48 hours of Uri attack, Russian special force conducted joint operations very close to Gilgit," he pointed out.
