Gurgaon, Oct 1 (IANS) Jailed gangster Ashok Rathi gave a 'contract' to kill his wife to his friends, who shot her dead on September 2 to 'strengthen their ties' with Rathi, police said on Saturday.
Gurgaon Crime Branch unit-1 chief Amit Kumar and his team have arrested Sanjeet Kataria, Deepak and Lalit -- the three suspected to have had a hand in the killing of the woman.
They are residents of different areas of Gurgaon, police said, adding that Kataria and Deepak are undergraduates, while Lalit is a school passout.
Gangster Rathi, 37, suspected the character of his wife Sushma, 28, and therefore, gave the contract to his three friends to eliminate her.
"The accused executed the plan on September 2 when the victim visited Alipur bus stand on Sohna Road on a two-wheeler to drop her daughter, 8, to school. They did it to strengthen their bonding with Rathi," Amit Kumar told IANS.
Sushma Rathi received four bullet injuries and died on the spot. The car in which the assailants had come was later found in a charred condition near Haryana's Palwal.
Police said that gangster Rathi had also killed his mother-in-law and brother-in-law a few years ago and was sentenced to life imprisonment for those killings.
According to police, Rathi has 26 cases registered against him under various charges, including murder, attempt to murder and extortion.
Arrested Kataria also has a criminal past, with two cases lodged against him on murder charges.
"The three accused were on Saturday produced before a court, which remanded them to three-day police custody," Kumar added.
