Continue diplomatic moves to defuse bilateral tensions, CPI-M tells Centre

New Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS) The Communist Party of India-Marxist on Thursday said the Centre has informed opposition leaders that the Indian Army's cross-border surgical strikes were conducted in Kupwara and Poonch sectors and called for continuing diplomatic and political moves to defuse the bilateral tensions.

"The government briefed some leaders of the opposition parties on certain operations conducted by the Indian Army. The government informed that at two points across Kupwara and Poonch these operations took place," the CPI-M said in a statement.

"The government had informed that these operations have ended this morning. The CPI-M expects that there is no further escalation of hostilities henceforth.

"The CPI-M expresses the hope that now incidents like at Pathankot and at Uri will not recur. We urge upon the Government of India to continue with the diplomatic and political moves to defuse tensions," said the party.

Shortly after an announcement that India carried out surgical strikes on terrorist launch pads across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh informed key national leaders and chief ministers about the military operations.

The government subsequently convened an all-party meeting in the national capital.
