Bengal anti-corruption officer held on bribery charge

Kolkata, Sep 25 (IANS) An officer of West Bengal's anti-corruption bureau has been arrested along with a suspended senior forest department officer by sleuths of Kolkata police on bribery allegations, police said on Sunday.

"A DSP of state anti-corruption bureau has been arrested from a restaurant at Dunlop for allegedly taking bribes and compromising investigative documents," police said.

The forest department officer was arrested for allegedly bribing the DSP.

The forest official was under suspension for alleged corruption and the DSP was in charge of the investigations against him.

According to sources, the police officer was under ACB's surveillance for some time over allegations that he was taking bribes from the suspended official and supplying important case documents. He was finally caught red handed by the ACB officials while taking bribe from the forest official on Saturday night.

Both have been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act. They were presented on Sunday in the Bankshal Court, where the magistrate sent them to police custody till September 29, the prosecution counsel said.
