The incident took place in Vivekanand Nagar colony under Kavi Nagar police station of the city, police confirmed.
Sudhir Yadav, a resident of Dado village in Aligarh and also the village head, was living in Vivekanand Nagar colony, along with his wife Neetu and three children, police said.
The children told police that on Saturday morning, their father was accusing Neetu of having an extra-marital affair with someone, and she was crying over the 'false allegation'. After that, the man consumed poison. Following this, Neetu took out a pistol and shot herself.
The children called police, who rushed the couple to a hospital in Greater Noida. Doctors declared Sudhir dead, while Neetu's condition is stated to be critical.
"We have found a suicide note, in which Sudhir has written that he was committing suicide due to his wife's extra-marital affair," said Circle Officer-II Manish Mishra.
