Modi poisoning society, says Rahul

Kanpur, Sep 21 (IANS) Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of poisoning the society.

"Modi poisons the society and makes Indians fight each other," Gandhi told a gathering of farmers at Ghatampur in the course of his Kisan Yatra that began at Deoria and will conclude in New Delhi.

Gandhi also raised issues facing the farmers and said if the Congress party was voted to power in Uttar Pradesh, all the loans of farmers would be waived off.

"It is unfortunate that the pain and problems of the farmers are not reaching the Prime Minister," he said.

Describing Uttar Pradesh as a land of unlimited opportunities, the Congress leader accused the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Samajwadi Party (SP) and the BJP of doing nothing for the people.

"Their (SP, BSP and BJP) governments have only looted the people and given nothing to them," he alleged.

The Congress wanted to take the state on the path of prosperity, he said.

Gandhi emphasised that he had undertaken the 2,500-km Kisan Yatra only to highlight the problems of farmers.

He, however, refused to be drawn into the ongoing power struggle in the ruling Samajwadi Party.

Asked on his statement that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was a "good boy", Gandhi said he had cordial relations with politicians in many parties and no negative meaning should be drawn from his comment.

"I also respect Mayawatiji, but somehow I don't gel well with Modiji," he said.

The Congress leader is scheduled to hold a roadshow in Kanpur and spend the night in the city.
