New Delhi, Sep 21 (IANS) Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung and his team of officials on Wednesday visited 17 'dhalao' (garbage dumps) in the national capital to take stock of their functioning.
Jung and his team -- comprising senior officers of the Lt. Governor's Office -- issued directions to officials concerned on collection and disposal of garbage during their visits.
Jung personally visited the garbage collection sites at 'Angoori Khatta' on Asaf Ali Road and Bela Road near the Trauma Centre.
He inquired about the frequency of garbage collection and instructed supervisory officers to keep a close check on cleaning operations and make regular visits to the sites themselves.
"Officers from the Raj Niwas will make regular visits to the 'dhalaos' in the coming days; civic agencies need to be vigilant," Jung told Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officers.
He instructed the staff to ensure that garbage did not spill on to the roads during sorting.
Members of his team visited the garbage sites on Captain Gaur Marg, Tara Apartment, Lajpat Nagar and Gulabi Bagh, among others. They pointed out the lapses and issued instructions accordingly.
"Such visits will continue as the city fights the menace of vector-borne diseases and ensure cleanliness," a statement issued by the L-G Office said.
