New Delhi, Sep 21 (IANS) The Congress on Wednesday condemned the attack on a 21-year-old woman in Delhi and slammed the central government, dubbing Delhi as "stalking capital of India".
"We express grave concern, sorrow and anger at the kind of situation developing in Delhi and in India regarding the stalking of women," Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters here.
"Delhi is being talked of as the stalking capital of India. It is a title that it can do without," he said.
The Congress leader's remarks came a day after a young woman was brutally attacked and killed in broad daylight in north Delhi's Burari area by a jilted lover.
The assailant identified as Surender Singh, 34, stabbed the woman with a scissor on Tuesday morning for over 22 times in full public view.
A 28-year-old woman, a mother of two, was stabbed by a 26-year-old jilted lover in west Delhi's Inderpuri area on Monday.
"What is happening is shocking and brutal. It's occurring in broad daylight," he alleged.
Taking a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) states for leading in crime against women, Singhvi said, "Figures suggest three worst areas in crimes against women are in NDA-governed state."
"Maharashtra and Telengana follow Delhi in crimes against women. In Delhi, crimes of stalking have doubled," he added.
