Jakarta, Sep 21 (IANS) At least 10 persons were killed, three went missing and 30 injured as flashfloods and landslides struck West Java province in Indonesia overnight and Wednesday morning, a disaster agency spokesman said.
The flashfloods also left hundreds of people displaced in Garut district as water in two rivers overflowed due to heavy downpours, Xinhua news agency quoted Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of the national disaster agency, as saying.
Eight people have been killed, 30 wounded and one has gone missing, he said.
In Sumedang district, landslides hit two houses, leaving two people dead and two others missing on Tuesday night, Sutopo said.
Search operations for the missing as well as emergency relief efforts are underway, involving soldiers, police, those from local disaster agency and search and rescue office.
Hundreds of affected people have been moved into government office buildings and military stations, Sutopo added.
Indonesia is frequently hit by floods and landslides during heavy rains.
