Srinagar, Sep 20 (IANS) Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi arrived here on Tuesday to review security in the Valley in the aftermath of Sunday's fidayeen attack in Uri.
Accompanied by a team of senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Union Home Secretary is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with state and central police and intelligence agencies to review the overall security in Kashmir.
The Home Secretary was scheduled to reach here earlier, but because of meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Monday, Mehrishi's visit was deferred by a day, sources said.
Mehrishi will also call on state Governor N.N. Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti during his visit.
Eighteen soldiers were killed and 30 others injured when four suicide attackers entered the administrative base camp of an infantry battalion in the highly fortified Uri town of Baramulla district on Sunday.
