Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 20 (IANS) The Kerala Cabinet on Tuesday cleared a series of projects for all-round development of the state and work on these will commence on Kerala Formation Day -- November 1, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.
On completion of 100 days in office on August 25, the Chief Minister had announced several projects relating to housing, health, education, green initiatives, and the like.
Addressing a post-Cabinet press briefing, the third one since he took over in May this year, Vijayan said three-tier taskforces for each sector have been formed, and the Chief Minister, Ministers concerned, Leader of Opposition and government officials would form part of these taskforces.
"IIM-Kozhikode will play a key role in these projects, which will give a huge facelift to these sectors. The funds would come from various sources, including private parties, and the state government will also chip in. Sector-wise cost details will be known on November 1," said Vijayan.
The Chief Minister asserted that by the end of his five-year term, no one in the state will be left without a house of his own.
"A housing complex would be built, which would house facilities for learning, geriatric care, skill improvement centres and IT empowerment centres," Vijayan added.
In the health sector, he pointed out, currently most of the state-run hospitals have poor infrastructure and a lot of time is taken for patients to get medical care.
"Each of these hospitals will be well-equipped to provide state-of-the-art health care, that too without any waiting time," the Chief Minister said.
As for the 'Green Kerala' initiative, it is envisaged to include organic farming, water conservation and use of unused land for agriculture purpose, besides strengthening of homestead vegetable farming, according to him.
"Waste treatment would be a key function in this segment, and cleaning of all water bodies would also be undertaken," said Vijayan.
In the education sector, a curriculum review would be done, and a huge infrastructure push will take the schools in the state to a new level, he affirmed.
"Special emphasis would be given on teaching English. IT will be another area where emphasis would be given in the educational institutions, and it will be ensured that qualitative improvement of teachers is done through training programmes," the Chief Minister added.
