Don’t think all party meet will solve the problem: Mamata on Uri attack

Don't think all party meet will solve the problem: Mamata on Uri attackKolkata, Sep 19 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday expressed her reservations on holding an all-party meeting regarding the Uri attack, but said everybody needed to work together to ensure the country's interest was not harmed.

Condemning the terrorist attack that took lives of 18 soldiers in Uri town of Jammu and Kashmir, Banerjee said: "It was very unfortunate. So let's work together.. It is a matter concerning my country and I will not say anything which will hurt the interests of our country."

"I have some questions in my mind like you. But it is better to keep quiet in the interest of the country," she said.

Asked whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi needed to call an all-party meeting to discuss the situation, she said: "I don't think it will solve the problem."

But she hastened to add that it was not the right time to comment on the issue.

Banerjee said at this moment everyone should pray for the injured and "it is not the time to discuss who is responsible and who is not".

In the morning, Banerjee in a tweet saluted the martyrs.

"No words can take away the pain of the 17 families who lost their loved ones in Uri. India's brave soldiers, salute," she tweeted.

The toll in Sunday's attack has subsequently gone up to 18 after another injured soldier succumbed.
