Over Rs 1.31 cr collected as traffic fines in GurgaonGurgaon, Sep 17 (IANS) The traffic police in Gurgaon have fined 53,545 traffic violators in a month here and collected over Rs 1.31 crore in fines from them, police said on Saturday.

The fines were collected from August 17 to September 16, for violating traffic rules. The average fine collected in a day was Rs 4.36 lakh.

A special enforcement drive against errant drivers started in Gurgaon on August 17, the day when new police Chief Sandeep Khirwar took charge.

 

Police towed 2,787 vehicles for wrong parking, 5,604 vehicle owners were fined for wrong side parking and 2,974 for wrong side driving.

Police said 3,307 vehicles were impounded of which 2,617 were auto-rickshaws and 690 were other vehicles including taxis.

Police said the drive was carried out in crowded areas including M.G. Road, Cyber City, HUDA City Centre, M.G. Road Metro Station, Sohna Road, Old Delhi Road and Udyog Vihar.

A 24x7 challan branch has been set up to pay the fines.

Police said the initiative has been lauded by the citizens and will be continued in future as well.
