Bengal government, Tata Metaliks inks agreement for skill development

Kolkata, Sep 15 (IANS) The West Bengal government on Thursday signed an agreement with Tata Metaliks Limited for a skill development centre to train 1,200 youth annually in West Midnapore district.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said her government aims to impart skill training to six lakh youth per year.

"We will immediately be able to start the skill development centre since the state government is providing the hardware part and we the software part for it. To start with, we will impart training in the trades of electrician, carpenter, hospitality and wellness etc.

"We will provide training to around 1,200 youth per annum and intend to scale it up in future," said company Managing Director Sanjiv Paul.

The company will train the youth as part of its corporate social responsibility.

Urging the Tatas to take over other technical institutions for skill development, the Chief Minister said: "There is ready infrastructure in many Industrial Training Institutes and polytechnic colleges in West Bengal. Anybody can run these institutes according to their choice. If you are interested in other ITIs and polytechnic colleges, you are welcome."
