At least 40 wounded in bombing of IS-controlled area in Syria

Beirut, Sep 15 (IANS) At least 40 persons were wounded on Thursday in a bombing carried out by unidentified warplanes of an area under the control of Islamic State terror group in Syria, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

The London-based NGO said the warplanes launched four airstrikes on different positions, including a school in al-Mayadin city in the Syrian northeastern province of Deir al-Zour, Efe news agency reported.

SOHR did not rule out more deaths as some of the wounded were in serious condition.

IS-held areas are usually bombed by the warplanes of the United States-led international coalition, Russia or the Syrian regime.

Action against the Islamic State is excluded from the cease-fire agreement reached by Washington and Moscow, which entered into force on September 12.

Under the agreement, the truce will last for seven days and then Washington and Moscow will attack extremists in Syria.

Almost the entire province of Deir al-Zour is dominated by radicals, except for some neighbourhoods in its capital and the military airport, which are controlled by Syrian government forces.
