Some devotees injured in minor stampede in UP's BarsanaBarsana (Uttar Pradesh), Sep 14 (IANS) A few devotees suffered injuries in a minor stampede on Wednesday during the 'Matki Phod Leela' in Barsana town in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, police said.

Police said a mild baton charge helped bring the situation under control in the afternoon, adding that some devotees were injured in the melee and were evacuated after the stampede.

The religious ritual is enacted at the 'Sankari Khor' (a narrow passage between hills) in the town where, as per the legend, Lord Krishna used to steal butter and curd from 'gopis' moving towards Mathura to sell the same in the market place.

Barsana resident Pandit Ram Babu Sharma said: "It is nothing major or unusual. The crowd was big and some people wanted to move ahead for a better view of the ritual, which caused a little flutter. That is all."
