New Delhi, Sep 13 (IANS) A 75-year-old man became the fifth victim to succumb to the health complications caused by chikungunya at a city hospital, authorities said on Tuesday.
Prakash Kalra was admitted to Ganga Ram Hospital on September 12 with confirmed chikungunya.
"The patient was a resident of Mathura in Uttar Pradesh and died on Tuesday. He also suffered from kidney failure," officials said.
Ganga Ram Hospital had witnessed deaths of three senior citizens due to health complications caused by chikungunya on September 12.
According to the hospital, the patients were also suffering from diabetes and kidney ailments.
Municipal Corporation data said the number of dengue, chikungunya and malaria infections stands at 1,158, 1,057 and 21 respectively.
According to the civic bodies, the highest dengue cases was reported in 2015 with a total of 15,876 people infected by the vector borne disease with 60 deaths.
Sources at the AIIMS have also said that the hospital has witnessed the death of six patients due to dengue and chikungunya. However, the hospital is yet to respond to it.
