Cabinet approves cadre review in BSF

New Delhi, Sep 12 (IANS) The Union cabinet on Monday approved the cadre review of group 'A' executive officers of the Border Security Force (BSF). The last cadre review of the service was done in 1990.

"The union cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the cadre review of group 'A' executive officers of BSF with net creation of 74 posts of various ranks from Assistant Commandant to Additional Director General ranks to enhance the operational and administrative capabilities of BSF," said an official statement.

According to the statement, the existing group 'A' posts in the paramilitary force will now increase from 4,109 to 4,183.

The present sanctioned strength of the force is 2,57,025 having 186 battalions, including three National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) battalions. Of these the executive group 'A' cadre has sanctioned strength of 4,065 officers (4,109 including the IPS quota).

The cabinet has approved 404 new posts of different ranks in the cadre review and reduced 330 posts of Deputy Commandant (SST level).

Those approved posts include, one Additional Director General (HAG level) post, 19 Inspector General (SAG level) posts, 370 Deputy Inspector General (DIG) or commandant or 2 1C (JAG level) posts and 14 Assistant Commandant (JTS level) posts.

About 90 per cent troops of BSF, which is the largest border guarding force established in 1965, are deployed at the Indo-Pakistan Border, Indo-Bangladesh Border (including North East) and in states affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE), the statement said.
