Srinagar, Sep 8 (IANS) The Jammu and Kashmir cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, on Thursday decided to extend the services of state Director General of Police K. Rajendra Kumar.
Kumar was set to retire on September 30.
Sources said that recommendation for his extension has been sent to the Centre and he is likely to remain on the post.
It's being observed that the move was being taken to ensure the state police was not disturbed at a time the Kashmir Valley was undergoing a cycle of violence that has so far claimed at least 76 lives.
An IPS officer of 1984 batch of J&K cadre, Rajendra was to retire on September 30.
The state cabinet, however, made its choice clear for the next state DGP by posting S.P. Vaid as DG coordination and law and order.
In another important decision, B.B. Vyas has been posted as principal secretary to the Chief Minister in place of Navin Choudhary who has been posted as principal secretary finance and planning department.
