Kolkata, Sep 4 (IANS) As Mother Teresa was canonised in Rome, Mother House, the world headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity, was presented a bouquet of 106 roses on Sunday -- courtesy West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Mother Teresa would have been 106 years old had she been alive. She was born on August 26, 1910.
The Chief Minister, who attended the canonisation ceremony at the Vatican, chose to recognise Mother Teresa's peerless work for the poor by showing this gesture through state cabinet Minister Firhad Hakim at a programme organised by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
The minister represented the state government at the event at Mother House. Trinamool Lok Sabha member Sultan Ahmed accompanied him.
"We presented a bouquet of 106 roses in Mother's honour. She would have been 106 had she been alive today. We decided to honour that," Ahmed told IANS.
Hundreds of admirers poured in to pay respects to Mother, who was canonised in Rome. Monday will be her 19th death anniversary.
