Immensely blessed to have witnessed Mother Teresa’s canonisation: Mamata

Vatican City, Sep 4 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said she felt "immensely blessed" to have witnessed the canonisation of Mother Teresa, describing it as a "moment of overwhelming pride".

"I feel immensely blessed to have witnessed the canonisation of our beloved Mother in the Vatican today," Banerjee said in a Facebook post.

The chief minister, who walked all the way with her delegation from Rome to the Vatican singing Bengali songs including Rabindrasangeet, took a seat with the sisters of the Mother Teresa founded order Missionaries of Charity at the ceremony.

"Team Bengal walked all the way from the hotel with songs on our lips and I was ushered in the venue in a very special way by Sister Prema, Head of the Missionaries of Charity and I was seated with them.

It was a moment of overwhelming pride, a moment to once again dedicate ourselves to the cause of humanity," she said.
