Vijayan completes 100 days in office, sets road map

New Delhi, Sep 3 (IANS) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday completed 100 days in office and announced a road map for the state including a green initiative, homes for the poor, and development in education besides others.

Vijayan along with several of his cabinet colleagues had arrived here to celebrate the Onam festival at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Addressing reporters here, he said that his government had prepared both short and long term plans for the state.

"We are planning to raise Rs 50,000 crore -- outside of the budget -- in the next five years , which would fund mostly infrastructure projects," said Vijayan.

"In the 100 days we were in office we were able to open 40 cashew factories that were closed for a long time and 18,000 workers benefited on account of this," he said.

He said the worst problem faced by the state is tackling of waste, so a major project 'Green Kerala' initiative would be taken up.

Under this 'green' initiative all heavily polluted inland water bodies would be cleaned. Organic farming would also be taken up in a big way.

Vijayan said all these would be addressed by a Task Force group and funded by the state, centre and philanthropists, both individual and corporates.

He also spoke about project 'LIFE' which would provide new homes to nearly 4.7 lakh homeless people in the state in the next five years.

The other projects announced included a new metro water transport project.

Vijayan also mentioned measures to infuse life in the state owned Kerala State Road Transport Corporation.

He announced that all state run schools would have a smart class room, while one school in each of the 140 assembly constituencies would have state-of-the-art facilities.

A huge boost would also be given to IT and start-up initiatives.
