Eco-friendly idols this Ganesha festival at Mumbai college

Mumbai, Sep 1 (IANS) Environmental concerns ruled the minds of students of K.P.B. Hinduja College in Mumbai when they decided to promote water soluble idols during this Ganesha festival.

"PANAAH", the college society under whose banner the event is being organised, will have the students displaying the Ganesha idols made from water soluble cow dung mixed with clay.

Surbhi Kutir Udyog Foundation, an NGO, will be providing the idols, made by its own artisans.

The funds from the sale of the idols (Rs 150 each) will go to the artisans of the NGO, while some of it will be reserved for corporate social responsibility activities which may help the needy students of the college.

"We are proud of our students for taking such a unique step to protect the environment. The students will promote the campaign by distributing placards and urging citizens to go for idols made of cow manure," Minu Madlani, Principal of K.P.B. Hinduja College, said on Thursday.

"Some money from the sales will also be given to the college CSR fund to help needy and meritorious students," Madlani added.

The event that started on Thursday will continue till September 5 and even general public can buy the idols.
