Barcelona, Sep 1 (IANS) Spanish football champions FC Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez on Thursday said he is sure coach Luis Enrique will renew his contract after his current deal expires next June 2017.
Fernandez and Barcelona's director of professional sports Albert Soler admitted that renewing Enrique's contract is one of the most important issues that has to be addressed immediately. However, they did not specify when negotiations will kick off with the Spanish coach, reports Efe.
Fernandez emphasised his point of view that a head coach has to be certain, happy and excited, like Enrique.
Soler pointed out that Enrique's renewal is not on Barcelona's current agenda, but insisted it is an issue that has to be addressed soon.
Enrique's contract is not the only issue on the negotiating table, as the club is also trying to improve those of key players Croatian Ivan Rakitic, Uruguay's Luis Suarez and Argentine Lionel Messi.
