New Delhi, Aug 31 (IANS) He has designed for the best of Bollywood stars at film festivals and red carpets, yet he would like to stay away from designing costumes for films. Designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee says he prefers to be in control of his designing and hence avoids doing movies.
"When one is doing films, you are at the mercy of script, director, actor and actress (and) you end up becoming a costume designer," Mukherjee told IANS.
"When one is doing fashion ad (advertisement) designing, you decide what you want to create. I prefer to be in control of my designing and the image that I would like to send out to the public hence I like to make clothes for my friends from Bollywood for their red carpet appearances and not do films with them," the designer said.
Mukherjee's sartorial creations, marked by traditional fabrics and techniques, have made him a globally recognised name in the world of design.
He has also styled for some of the popular Bollywood actresses, including Deepika Padukone, Kangana Ranaut, Vidya Balan, Shabana Azmi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sushmita Sen and Kareena Kapoor Khan. His designs were also sported by International actresses like Rene Zellweger and Reese Witherspoon.
Mukherjee, who started his label 'Sabyasachi' in 1999, also earned the distinction of being one of the few names in the history of Indian fashion to participate at fashion weeks in Milan, New York and London. He recently showcased at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016, that concluded in Mumbai on Sunday.
