Tokyo, Aug 31 (IANS) At least 10 persons were killed and three were missing after Typhoon Lionrock lashed Japan, officials said on Wednesday.
Nine bodies were recovered near a nursing home while the body of a female was found from a rubble in the city of Kuji in Iwate prefecture, Xinhua news agency reported.
In the northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido, three persons remained missing. One of them was believed to be driving his car when it plunged into a river.
Lionrock, the 10th typhoon of the season, swept across Japan on Tuesday evening, forcing municipalities to issue more than 400,000 evacuation advisories in the Tohoku area.
The typhoon disrupted major transportation networks with more than 100 flights scheduled to and from airports in Tohoku and Hokkaido cancelled, along with ferry services in Japan's east and northeast regions.
