Congress says parts of Dhingra panel report leaked to 'defame and malign'

New Delhi, Aug 31 (IANS) The Congress on Wednesday said they will respond to the Justice S.N. Dhingra probe panel report that pointed to irregularities in grant of licences and land allotment in prime areas to individuals and companies, including Congress President Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra and his firms, only after examining it.

The Congress also alleged that "portions of the report was leaked even before its submission" which they said was done to "defame and malign".

Congress also alleged that Justice Dhingra had sought favours from the Haryana government and this had compromised his neutrality.

The Justice S.N. Dhingra Commission of Inquiry, probing controversial land deals in Gurgaon, on Wednesday submitted its report to the BJP government in Haryana.

"Let the report be made public. We will give a detailed response after examining the report. Even before the report was submitted to government, portions of it were leaked to press. This shows the mal-intent and sinister conspiracy of Haryana government, BJP and even the Commission itself," said Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala.

"It clearly proves that sole intent is to defame, conspire and malign, rather than adjudge the issues fairly. BJP, including its governments at the centre and state, have run a political agenda of vendetta and revenge purely with a view to vilify and slander," he added.

Congress also alleged that Justice Dhingra had compromised his position as an independent and neutral arbiter by accepting favours from the present BJP government of Haryana for Gopal Singh Charitable Trust headed by him.

"It included expenditure of nearly Rs 1 crore from the public exchequer in contravention of government norms, besides accepting gift of land free of cost in Gurgaon for his trust from a private individual," said Surjewala.
