Tokyo, Aug 30 (IANS) China's media watchdog has announced a campaign against social and entertainment news that lacks "positive energy", correct values or high aesthetic value.
According to a circular by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, released on Monday night, such news must be dominated by mainstream ideologies and "positive energy", EFE news reported.
The campaign is especially aimed at news and content that make jokes on traditions, dishonour classics, or openly express admiration for the Western lifestyle.
The directive comes amid growing control of media content in China and the persecution of some of the most popular forms of public expression, including live online video blogs.
Several foreign TV series and programmes are censored online in the country and the measures were extended in June to series and programmes based on foreign formats that will now have to seek prior approval from the authorities.
