New Delhi, Aug 30 (IANS) Chikungunya and dengue are on the rise in Delhi because BJP-ruled municipal bodies have failed to provide fogging and sanitation services, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said on Tuesday.
"It is MCDs' (municipal corporations) job to carry out cleaning and fogging, which they are not doing at all," Jain told the media.
Instead of doing their work and preventing mosquitoes from breeding, the "BJP-ruled MCDs" only "indulge in politics", the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader said.
"The people of Delhi should start questioning the MCDs for not doing their job."
He said hospitals run by the Delhi government were fully prepared to tackle the mosquito menace that causes chikungunya and dengue.
"We have 10,000 beds and the number of fever clinics has been increased from 55 last year to 355. People should not fear. The Delhi government is ready to tackle the menace," Jain said.
People should take precaution to avoid the disease and prevent the breeding of mosquitoes in their premises, Jain said.
The three municipal corporations in Delhi have so far reported 432 cases of chikungunya. Doctors say the real number of cases is much more.
While the AAP controls the Delhi government, the Bharatiya Janata Party is in control of all the three municipal corporations in Delhi.
